BLAZE OF GLORY.

ENGLISH CRICKETERS.

44 Plum " Warner Declares England's Optimism.

"ABLE TO WIN THE RUBBER."

(Australian nnd N.Z. Press Association.)

(Received 2 p.m.) LONDON, November 11. Mr. P. F. Warner, writing in the "Morning Post," states that so far as hatting is concerned the Marvlebone tepm is going strength for strength. 'My own opinion is that it is the most powerful batting side ever sent to Australia, not only ricli in batsmen gifted to get rims, but in variety of method and style of adding to the run-making capacity of the team. I recognise that a representative Australian side is a different proposition from any single State team, but I do not see how the Marylebone side can fail to make many runs in the Tests. *Ti»ey liave. met and mastered all the possible bowlers except Oxenham and a'Beckett. The Australian selectors must be doing a lot of hard thinking.

"While my remarks are pitched in an optimistic key I have not forgotten Stoddart's team of 1897-8, which started in a blaze of glory and then lost four out of the five Tests. Even remembering this, he must be a confirmed pessimist who does not feel confident of the present team's ability to win the rubber."
