SIGNED ANOTHER NAME.
GRAMOPHONE OBTAINED. BY FALSE PRETENCES. Just how a man obtained a gramophone worth £35 by making one payment of 5/ was told at the Police Court this morning, when Nathaniel Cameron Grow (43) was charged with forging the name of "John Armstrong" to a hire-purchase agreement. On the application of Chief Detective Hammond, the charge was reduced to one of false pretences. Accused pleaded guilty. Mr. Hammond said that Gow went to a city emporium and purchased the gramophone by paying a deposit of 5/. He gave the name of "John Armstrong," but never made another payment. The machine had been recovered, but £3 worth of rec</.'ds which he obtained at the same time were still missing. Gow was fined £5, or one month's imprisonment, and was ordered to make restitution of £3.
