Vesuvius, Firelight and Trimmer, who filled the places in'the November Handicap on the second day- at Addington, all went better than 4.27. and they are now eligible for the Auckland Trotting Cup. .- .. '
• Ama'ris contested -the mile saddle on the feet and concluding days at Adding-, ton and though lie finished third on the first day there was nothing impressive about his effort, as he could not run his handicap..(2.l4). On this he did not look to have much chance yesterday and he finished outside a place. Amaris had not raced for some time and maybe he will be ail improved pacer as a res'ult of his racing this week.
Talaro continues to win races in his turn. The bay gelding went a good race in the New; Zealand Cup and less than half a mile from home he looked like running up to Peter Bingen, who was then in the lead. However, he tangled and by the time he got going again Great Bingen, Prince Pointer ' and Ahuriri had passed him and his chance was gone. Yesterday he went out at a good price in the Christehurch Handicap and won in 4.26 1-5. but his record is 4.24 4-5. However, as he won from a 4.25 mark, the time he registered yesterday is of no account.
EPSOM TRACK WORK, , j RAIMA GOES WELL. ;■ AVith only a week to go before the Otahuhu meeting, trainers at Epsom this morning gave their horses useful work. The trac kwas in first-class order. One of the best efforts of the morning was registered by the trotter Raima. Driven by W. Head, ho and Eibbon wood's Last (Fairman) went two miles; Rolfe Audubon (Julian), and Margaret "Wallace (Sandall) went with them for a time, Rolfe Audubon pulling off at the end,, of a mile and a-qua'rter, and Margaret Wallace at a inile and a-half. Kaima was in front all the way, and had Ribbonwood's Last doing his best a long way from home. It was an impressive workout on the part of Raima. Gold Jacket (McMahon) was. sent a mile and a-iidlf with Peter Grattan' (Nightingale). Nelson Taskcr joined in at the. mile past, and the. pace was then clapped on. Gold Jacket and Nelr son Tasker finished on terms,.and were going well at the end.■ .Peter' Grattan also went well. - :'. ?:.-• / '." Colonel Thorpe. (Lee) .'trotted two miles, ,'ahd afterwards 'sprinted behind Trustworthy: and' Goldman," but he left his feet f in the straight. V'.,' Lady Stepney- (Millen)'trotted, solidly over, a mile and a-half. This mare has brightened.up considerably during the past week or so. W. Clifton' worked his pair, Dad|s Hope and Halgana free-legged... Both went satisfactorily. . fe". .. ;.' : . V :.- (Brady), freelegged.iand Goldman, with the hopples orv, went" amile and a-half. Trustworthy made, the pace, but. both were on terms mat the . end. ' ■' . Tradesman (Gee) .trotted ' two miles, and went, with a lot. of freedom. He appears to be a better'horse' now than ever. ■ ..'-" .-.. ' TJncle Bert, who looks very big, was worked with a light boy in the saddle. . Choyserl; (McKenarickbAand a . maidenby.'. Our. Bingen King, who won a couple; of good-races.last season,, when trained by J. Shaw, will join that trainer's team again next w'eek. Bingen King is engaged at the Otahuhu meeting. ' ' Great Change was not asked to.go fast this morning, and.C.iFairman drove him several circuits' at nearly half-pae The Shrew, who! has brightened up a lot since- the Auckland meeting, was strapped' up and sent ' a mile by, W. •Head. This mare may go well at the ..Otahuhu meeting,'as.Head has_her well forward. . . .'The-trotter, Golden Huia, was driven in j a workout by A. Julian, but did .not . 'impress; I ! - ■
