BOBBY CALVES.
At a committee meeting of the New Zealand Sharemilkers' Association details were received from the Auckland Farmers' Freezing Company concerning the export of bobby calves. Certain information showed that the average price for bobby calf skins to export buyers was 8/ per skin, and the average boneless veal per calf was 181b. In addition there were the hearts, sweet bread, livers, kidneys, and veils, all of which were greatly sought after ,on the ' British - market. As sharemilkers and owners were vitally interested in the disposal of calves, it was agreed that steps should be taken to ensure the fullest return from this branch of the dairying business, so that those who took trouble with their calves would be paid accordingly. Export buyers paid in the auction anything from 14/ to £1 per head, and still had a margin of profit. The secretary was instructed to obtain the fullest information in regard to the prices obtainable for all bobby calf products from overseas, and also to ascertain the working of the National Dairy Company's scheme for next season.
