MESSAGE TO ALLIANCE. '■• ■;. ' Mr. E. H. Cherrington,- general secretary of the World League against Alcoholism, has cabled to the New Zealand Alliance, as follows:' "Smith, America's greatest opponent of prohibition, defeated, getting fewer electoral votes than any Democratic candidate for 70 years. Prohibition was overwhelmingly sustained." MR. HOOVER CONGRATULATED.. At a meeting yesterday, the standing committee of the.New Zealand Alliance resolved to send the following congratulatory cable to Mr. Herbert Hoover: "The New Zealand Alliance for • the abolition of the liquor traffic)' sends heartiest congratulations on your election as President'. We rejoice that the citizens of America have demonstrated their confidence both in you and in the prohibition'policy which'you have determined to sustain and enforce."
