HAURAKI COUNTY AFFAIRS.

The Hauraki Plains County Ccftmcil met yesterday, Mr. E. L. Walton presiding.
A report from the inspector, recommending that lights be installed at the dangerous corners throughout the county, caused a long discussion. mainly on. tha question whether the lights should be paid for by the county or by.- the ridings. The chairman ruled that the coat conld not be borne by the counter. On the motion of Mr. H. Hicks, the recommendation was adopted, and the epgineer is to ascertain the cost per light. The Minister of Public Works promised to give careful consideration to the council s request for a subsidy for the Waitakaruru water supply loan when the Depart mental officers' report was received. The Land Drainage Department agreed to undertake the metalling of the Puhaogs Canal and Patetonga roads early naxt month.
With reference to the Hopai West road, the engineer was instructed to survey fii?- xtra , land required. The ratepayer# of Miranda asked the council to lift the subsidy and make an early start with the work. As the council had no knowledge of any subsidy the engineer was instructed to inquire if the subsidy came 0U rri_ . au k°niatie allocation grant. The conccil approved the request of the Turua Town Board that the engineer undertake repairs of 127 chains of the Hauraki Road.
The tender of A. Winder uae accepted •?r carting 4000 yarda of metal from the river landing to the Road.
