FACTS FOR INVESTORS.

TREND OF THE MARKET.

WHERE THE MONEY GOES.

AUSTRALIA TAKES A SHARE

Students of the weekly table published in these columns each Friday will have noted the important part taken by Australian concerns.

Amongst 13 banking shares which are regularly listed, all but two have their headquarters in the Commonwealth. When it is considered that banking stock shares with insurance the distinction of being the most popular with investors it will be realised that a very large sum of money must cross the Tasman annually in return for bank scrip. Insurance institutions are chiefly Dominion owned, _ but recently two Australian concerns, United and Queensland have been listed on the local Exchange, and will presumably secure a povtion of the funds placed by investors in insurance stock. The Australian Provincial has been listed here for some time, but has not attracted business.

In the shipping class the sha\-es of Huddart-Parker and Co., with headquarters in Melbourne, are popular with investors.

The miscellaneous division contains a strong leavening of concerns that are essentially Australian. Thus, in the list published to-day, it will be seen that quotations were available on Thursday either from sellers or buyers for at least half a-dozen. They are: Australian Glass, British Tobacco Co., Burns Philp, Colonial Sugar Co., Electrolytic Zinc and Henry Jones. Other shares which are quoted with some regularity, but which were n i° fc on Thursday are those of the Dunlop Rubber Company, Holden Motors, Howard Smith, and Perdriau Rubber.

only is the complete list & comprehensive one, but it includes many stocks that have a definite popularity on this side.

Mining quotations are not shown in the table, but special mention in this connection should be made of the Mount Lyell Mining and Railway Company, with headquarters at Melbourne, which commands a very considerable business locally. The aggregate investment by New Zealanders in Australian stocks must be very considerate. It should be noted «it ' oee n °k take cognisance of the support given to Australian Government and municipal loane.
