The Gunbar Is due at Auckland this afternoon, and has t>een allotted a berth at the Central wharf. The sloops Veronica and Laburnum are to dock to-morrow for cleaning and painting. The Tiroa arrived from Gisborne on Saturday afternoon, and is to Bail again at noon to-morrow. She is at the King's wharf.. The Westport Coal Co.'s steamer Canopus arrived this morning from Westport and is discharging at the Central wharf. The Richardson steamer Awahou is due at Auckland this evening from East Coast ports, via Portland, berthing at the Central wharf. She is to sail again at 5 p.m. tomorrow. En route from London to New Zealand, the Federal steamer Norfolk is reported to have arrived at Suva yesterday. She is due at Auckland on November 9, and from lu-re she is to go to Wellington and Lyttelton. Cabled advice from London states that the Shaw, Savill and Albion steamer Corinthic arrived at Southampton last Saturday, to land passengers and" mails from New Zealand. She was dispatched from Wellington on September 26. The Rarawa undocked this morning and Is completing overhaul at the Northern wharf. Due at Auckland at 6 p.m. to-morrow, the Shaw, Savill and Albion steamer Matakana is to berth at the Prince's wharf to unload general cargo from West of England ports to the agency of L. D. Nathan, Ltd. Wellington. Lyttelton and Dunedln are her other ports of discharge. Having left Wellington at 6 p.m. on Saturday, the Canadian National steamer Cana-1 dian Conqueror is due at Auckland to-night and will berth at the King's wharf to-mor-row morning for linal loading for New York, Boston and Halifax. She is to be dispatched for New l'ork on Thursday morning. THE MANUKA. The Union Company announces the steamer Manuka to leave Melbourne at 10 a.m. on Wednesday with passengers, mails, and cargo for Bluff, Liunedin, Lyttelton, and Wellington. NIAGARA AT HONOLULU. Makura arrived at Wellington at U а.m. to-day, and is to resume her voyage to Itarotonga, Papeete, and San Francisco at 3 p.m. to-morrow. WITHIN WIRELESS RANGE. The following vessels are expected to be within range of the Auckland Wirele96 Station to-night :—Waipahi, Ulimaroa, Marama, Waitemata, Canadian Commander, Matakana, Rona, Tofua, Canadian Traveller, Canadian Highlander, Wirral, Harrington Court, Kaituna. AORANGI ARRIVED. Arriving at Auckland last evening, after a fair-weather voyage, the Union Company's R.M.m.s. Aorangi berthed at the Prince's wharf to land passengers, mails, and cargo from Vancouver, Honolulu, and Suva. The vessel is announced to resume her voyage to Sydney at o p.m. to-morrow. PORT CURTIS REPORTED. ' Bound from New York, with general cargo for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton. and Dunedln, the Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamer Port Curtis is reported to have cleared: Colon last Saturday. She is due at Auckland about November 20. THE HANNINGTON COURT. Wireless advice received from the steamer Hannington Court states she will arrive from Chile on Wednesday. The vessel has a full cargo of nitrate, of which IOUO tons will be unloaded at Auckland and the remainder at Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Fremantle. Messrs. R. Millar and Company are the local agents. MARAMA REPORTS. A radio from the Union Co.'s steamer Marama states that she expects to arrive at Auckland from Sydney at 7.30 a.m. tomorrow. She has passengers and mails and cargo to land at the Queen's wharf, and is announced to sail on her return voyage at 3 p.m. next Friday. The Maheno did not leave Sydney for Wellington until Saturday. She is due at Wellington on Wednesday. NAURU CHIEF DISCHARGING. With S3OO tons of Ocean Island phosphate for discharge at the King's wharf, the British Phosphate Commissioners' steamer Nauru Chief arrived at Auckland yesterday afternoon. Captain. M. Johnson is still in command. The vessel left Ocean Island on October 23, and experienced generally fine weather on the voyage. She will bunker at Auckland, and the local agents, Henderson and Mactarlane, Ltd., hope to dispatch her on her return voyage to Ocean Island on Thursday evening. FAST MOTOR CARGO SHIPS. Many shipowners who have made a careful study of the operation of motor ships on various trade routes have decided in favour of a standard class of vessel capable of maintaining a . higher speed than the steamers which they have now abandoned. An example of the rate of progress in this direction is reflected in the October issue of "The Motor Ship," which publishes an out<l- a . lng artlcle dealing with ten 144-knot JoOO-ton cargo liners ordered by an owner who, since taking delivery of his first motor ship in has not contracted for a single steamer, having at the present time -4 motor cargo ships of over 120,000 tons gross in service.
