An enjoyable finale to the commerce train tour was provided on Saturdav evening when the local bodies of hangarei gave a dinner at the Settlers' Hotel to the visiting business men and Departmental officers. The Mavor of Whangarei (Mr. L. J. Brake) presided. After dinner the company adjourned to the Madeira Hall, where a programme of musical items was rendered and several toasts were honoured. "Our Guests'' was given by Mr. A. R. Crane and responded to by' Mr. H. T. Mcrritt. "Our Hosts and the* Prosperity of Their District" was proposed by Mr. J. R. Rendell. Response was made by Messrs. L. A. Johnson and J. A. Finlavson on behalf of the County Council and Harbour Board respectively, and by the Mayor on behalf of the townspeople. Mr. H. T. Merritt gave the toast of the Railway Department and Mr. H. H. •Sterling replied. "Industries and Commerce'' was proposed by Mr. T. Mitchell and responded to by Mr. J. W. Collins. "International Trade" was given by Mr. J. H. Hay ward. Response was made bv Messrs. C. M. Croft, J. B. Foster and \V. D. Lambie, Trade Commissioners for Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom.
