PERSONAL.

Dr. Moody, of Dunedin, came back from a trip abroad by the Aorangi. Mr. P. Hally, Conciliation Commissioner, left for Wellington by the Limited last evening. Mr. A. Burgess and Dr. and Mrs. A. Crawford, of Wanganui, returned by the Aorangi yesterday. Mr. F. W. Furkert, Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department, left for Wellington by the Limited last evening. Mr. H. H. Sterling, General Manager of Railways, went to Hamilton last evening. He will go to Napier to-day. Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Puckey, of Remuera, came back from a tour of Great Britain and the Continent on Saturday. Mr. G. M. Bassant, manager of the Grand Hotel, came back by the Aorangi yesterday after a six months' holiday. He visited his people at Home. Mr. H. J. Wily, of Messrs. Fotheringham and Wily, was to-day admitted as a barrister of the Supreme Court, on the motion of Mr. E. H. Northcroft. Guests staying at the Albert Hotel are Mr. S. Jaboor (Melbourne), Mr. E. Brennan (Sydney), Mr. J. McLauchlin (Portland), and Mr. A. R. Stone (Kaikohe). Mr. W. A. Price, manager of the Union Company at Christchurch, returned by the Aorangi after a trip to the United Kingdom. He was accompanied by his wife and daughter. Mr. W. S. Bennett, Dalgety, Ltd.'s Wellington manager, and superinten-dent-elect for the Dominion, returned by the Aorangi from a visit to the Old Country and America. Mr. Bennett takes over the superintendency on January 1 next. Mr. J. T. Collins, of the headquarters staff of the Railway Department, who acted as secretary on the commerce train, was asked by Mr. H. T. Merritt, at a luncheon at Maungaturoto yesterday, to accept an engraved silver cigarette case as an appreciation of his services. Dr. E. P. Neale, secretary of the Chamber of Commerce, was accorded a special vote of thanks by the members of the commerce train party for the work which he and the members of his staff had accomplished in arranging for the tour of the province which ended last evening in Auckland. Staying at the Star Hotel are Mr. J. B. Jacobson (Melbourne), Mr. V. R. Padmore (Melbourne), Mr. A. W. Beauchamp (Brisbane), Mr. L. A. Scott (Sydney), Mr. A. McNeill (Wellington), Mr. G. W. Mitichinson (Wellington), Mr. W. P. N. Brinsley (Dunedin), Mr. S. H. Morton, Mr. F. H. Fitt, Mr. and S. Marshall (Wellington), and Mr. CrT. Kelly (Dunedin). Messrs. H. H. Sterling (general manager of railways), E. Casey (divisional superintendent), D. Rodie (commercial manager), J. G. Rickerby (district traffic manager), A. W. Wellsted (business agent), and A. H. W. Evenden (district supervisor of the refreshment branch) were entertained at luncheon at Whangarei by the officials of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce. Mr. H. T. Merritt expressed the thanks of all who had taken part in the tour of the commerce train for the efficient way in which the officers of the Department had ministerei. to the comfort of the travellers. _ t
