SEQUEL TO MOTOR SMASH.
CAR DRIVER COMMITTED.
ALLEGED NEGLIGENCE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) MATAMATA, Friday.
At the Matamata Magistrate's Court to-day Andrew Randrup, a well-known fanner of Hinuera, was committed to the Supreme Court at Hamilton on a charge of negligently driving a motor car. thereby causing the death of a Maori woman, Toi Rawhiri.
The charge arose out of a level crossing accident at Matamata on August 11, when Randrup's car collided with a special train conveying Tattersfield Limited employees on an excursion to Arapuni. The woman and her baby were killed, and Randrup and another Maori woman were injured. The car was totally smashed.
A plea of not guilty was entered
Mr. F. W. Platts, S.M., said he thought the police had made out a case for trial.
