FISHING AT TAUPO.
TROUT MUCH IMPROVED.
GOOD CATCHES THIS MORNING.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
TAUPO, this day.
The fishing season opened this morning. Several parties were out by 4 a.m., and all report good catches. Undoubtedly the trout are in better condition than they were last year. Mr. J. Sheehan's party of three rods caught 18 excellent fish, ranging in weight from 81b to 101b. Mr. Sheehan was accompanied by Messrs. J. C. Bryant and C. McLean, of Napier. A small party in the Sunbeam caught eight very fine fish. Mr. Otene's party of three rods caught 15, also up to 121b, and Mr. Stevens caught a 12-pounder. The steps taken by the Government to provide more feed for the trout is having a beneficial effect, and anglers consider that if some more new blood is introduced from Canada or elsewhere the breed will be improved stil! further.
