THE RATANA PARTY.

'PROPHET'S' SON A CANDIDATE

FATHER DECLINED TO STAND

(By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.")

WANGANUI, this day.

The Ratana who is contesting the Western Maori seat against Sir Maui Pomare is not Mr. W. T. Ratana, the

"prophet," but his son, Mr. H. T. Ratana, who contested the seat two elections ago. A number of Maoris in the electorate brought strong pressure on Mr. Ratana, sen., to contest the seat, but he declined, stating that his son, aged 34, was a more energetic man, and he relied on the force of the Ratana party to carry him through.
