J.C.L. INSURANCE SOCIETY.

The annual meeting of the J.C.L. Insurance, Benevolent and Presentation Society was held in the J.C.L. lounge last evening. Mr. A. H. Court, who apologised for the absence of Mr. John Court, presided over a large attendance of members.

In congratulating the staff on the very successful year just concluded Mr. Court pointed out that despite the fact of the bad trade depression generally experienced the year's net results were better than the previous one. This was reflected. in the staff's annual bonus allotment, which, for the year ending August 31, including long-service bonuses, amounted to £7808 5/5. A further £3225 12/8 comprising 8 per cent interest on tbe total amount to the oredit of the staff's bonus account (which now stands at £40,807) makes the year's payment a total of over £11,000.

In reviewing these figures Mr. Wilding, the company's secretary, pointed out the great benefit and success of the J.C.L. bonus system, which without question was very generous. The report of the society was read by the secretary, Mr. Hutching*, a report that revealed a highly satisfactory financial position. The firm's subsidy to the society for the year totalled £1126; to the J.CJL. library £57 18/, and to the recreation club £44 3/. Substantial donations were mads by the society to the Mayor's Unemployment Fund, also the Rev. Cowen's doss house fund, these being gratefully acknowledged. It was announced that the JJCh. annual picnie to Cowes Bay would be held on March 2, the s.s. Rangitoto being booked for that date. Musical numbers, contributed by members of the staff, were much enjoyed. Mr. Davidson proposed that a letter of greetings and good wishes be sent to Mr. John Court as founder of the firm. Thiß was carried unanimously.
