LABOUR'S MESSAGE.

MR. ANDERTON OPTIMISTIC.

Mr. W. T. Anderton, Labour candidate for Eden, addressed a crowded*meeting in the Congregational Hall, View Road, Mount Eden. A few good-humoured interjections enlivened the trenchant criticism of the Reform Administration, and of the attitude of the United candidates, who accepted the official seal of the "Uppos," but were anxious to make it clear in their speeches that they were not tied to any leader. Was this because the £70,000,000 borrowing bubble was too much to explain mray, or was it because they were pledged to the P.P.A.? How could they support the Bible in schools and follow Sir Joseph Ward, who stood for a free secular education. The candidate said New Zealand wanted men who were politically conscious. "I believe that Eden will in no wise countenance again the retrogression of the Reform Administration, or the reckless borrowing of the United party, but will vote solidly for Labour. (Applause.) If the way in which Labour's message is being received throughout the electorate is any criterion of what is going to ta.ke place on November 14, then I will most certainly represent Eden in the House of Representatives for the next three years," said Mr. Anderton. Many people were voting for Labour because they realised its policy was the only alternative to Reform's muddling and some were voting for the party because they had been convinced of Labour's practical politics. A vote of thanks and confidence was moved and carried without dissent. j
