ROSKILL CONTEST.
MR. G. C. MUNNS AT MORNING SIDE.
Mr. G. C. Munns, United party's candidate for Roskill, had a crowded meeting at Hirst's Hall, Morningside, last evening, Mr. T. P. Halpin presiding. The candidate had an orderly meeting, and was accorded a vote of thanks and confidence after lie had answered a number of questions. Speaking on the transport problem Mr. Munns said the happenings of recent times had driven people out of the suburbs after they had been induced to take up away from the crowded city. There was 110 excufe for the buses being legislated off the roads. Touching on immigration, Mr. Munns said it was a crime to bring out to this country so many people when there was not sufficient work for those already in the country. It meant starvation for many, and now we were faced with relief works at pay below the standard wage. In his opinion the Main Highways Board should get busy and spend the money they had in hand to keep a large number of men employed.
