LOCAL BODIES.
NORTHCOTE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting of the Northcote Borough Council was held last evening. The Mayor (Mr. A. E. Greenslade) presided. Condolence.—A vote of sympathy with Councillor Harry Weaver was passed at the death of his only eon, M». Alexander Neil Weaver, which took place at Belle Vue Hospital, New York, recently. The Mayor pointed out that this was the sixth occasion lately that Councillor Weaver had suffered bereavement. The other deaths had been his sister, Mrs. Thos. Johnson, of Whangarei, brother-in-law, Mr. George Mason, oi Whangarei; father-in-law, Mr. of Porisonby; nephew, Mr. Ray Jlacfie, who was drowned near Whakatane; and grandnephew, Master Orrnond Weaver, of Whanfrarei.
Public Telephone.—The District Telegraph Engineer, Mr. E. C. Gage, wrote that it was proposed to insial a public telephone booth at Northeote, in a position in Queen Street, approximately midway between the wharf and the Soldier*' Memorial in Onewa Road. Stafford Road.—The waterworks engineer estimated the cost of laying a new six-inch cast iron main on the south side of Stafford Road would be £509. It was decided to consider the advisahilfty of making provision in the loan proposals for this amount, in order to improve the water pressure in this locality, and.along the Sulphur Beach for fire-fighting pur-' poses. Sealing Highwaws.—Mr. J. Mc-Ennis, chairman of the No. 1 District Highways Council, intimated that a subsidy would be paid on sealing main highways for a width of 66ft in the business areas, and up to a width of 30ft in the remaining portions.
