MODEL AEROPLANES.
CLUB FORMED IN AUCKLAND.
The Auckland Model Airplane Club is now in process of formation. The aim of the club is to promote the study of aeronautics, the construction of models, and development in a general way of "air sense." The club in no way enters into competition with the existing Aero Club. In fact, it should provide very suitable material for actual flying as time goes on.
Competitions will be conducted under the following headings:—(l) Duration of flight; (2) speed; (3) distance; (4) scale models (workmanship); (5) rise-off-ground models; (6) power (other than elastic) driven models. As to duration, the present record now stands at over 400 seconds, and the distance well over half a mile:—showing that these models are by no means "toys."
The Auckland Aero Club has loaned tho Model Airplane Club its rooms for to-morrow evening for the initial meeting, and a number of the members are keenly interested in the success of the new club.
The present club is intended to keep to a senior membership, but boys joining now can be drafted to school clubs later when these a?e formed.
