TRANSVAAL UNIVERSITY.
RECTORSHIP OFFERED TO AUCKLAND PROFESSOR.
The rectorship of the Transvaal University College, Pretoria, has been offered to Professor A. C. Paterson, the former rector, who lias been professor of classics and Hebrew at Auckland University College since 1923. Professor Paterson has not yet decided whether he will accept the invitation to return to South Africa.
Professor Paterson, who was born in Scotland in 1875. was educated at Watson's College. Edinburgh, and at Edinburgh and Oxford Universities. After a period of Btudy in Germany he received an appointment in 1903 for special organising work under the Transvaal Government. Subsequently he joined the teaching staff of the Transvaal University as professor of Latin, and in 1916 he became its administrative head as registrar. In 1918 he was appointed rector, a position he held until he resigned in 1922.
