TRUE REFORMERS.

LABOUR CANDIDATE'S PLEA. MR. ANDERTON AT DOMINION ROAD. "A vote for Labour is a vote for true reform." This statement was made by Mr. W. T. Anderton, official Labour candidate for the Eden seat, speaking at the Dominion Road Methodist Church Hall last evening to a very attentive audience of 250 that gave him a vote of thanks and confidence. Mr. Anderton said the country had been led on the down grade by the Reform party, which had neglected to put into operation the promises contained in its manifesto of 1925. He criticised the Government's land policy, and said that despite the fact that 30,000 immigrants had been brought to New Zealand the number of workers on the land had decreased by 10,000. There was land in New Zealand for new settlers, but the Goverment had not the land policy to absorb them. Where was the Government's land policy when land deteriorated and went back to scrub and fern, when workers on the land had decreased, and farmers' bankruptcies exceeded all records? He declared that the Reform party acquiesced in the stagnation through which the country had passed during the last three years". Mr. Anderton defended Labour's land policy, which favoured perpetual leases, dependent upon occupancy and use, and advocated the institution of an agricultural bank.
