UNIQUE APPOINTMENTS. LADY NGATA AND LADY CARROLL. WELLINGTON, Monday. Lady Ngata, wife of Sir Apirana Ngata, has been appoint**! a member of tho Horutii Maori Council, under the Maori Councils Act of 1920. Lady Carroll has also been appointed as official member of the Maori Council for the district of Takitimu. These two appointments are unique as being the first occasion on which women have been appointed to Maori councils. The new members have given their services, believing they will be able to' accelerate the activities of the councils in their respective districts.
