A boy of 15 wae recently jammed in the lock gates at Hurley Lock on the Thames, near Marlow. Before he could be released the dock gates had to be opened and the boy was ehot through with the torrent of water. The lad, "William Thornton, aged 15, of Divinity Road, Oxford, had tried to jump across the lock gates as they were being closed. He mused his footing, fell between them, and the platform of the gates caught him by the neck. When the gates were opened an unknown man dived in and brought the body to the shore, but Thornton was dead.
