FINE GIVEN BACK.
A motorist who was fined for an offence he had not committed, has received the Royal pardon. The motorist, the son of an associate member of the R.A.C., was summoned fof driving an unlicensed motor car on the road, and was fined £2. It became known later that his father had taken .out a license, but had gone to the Continent without informing his son. The R.A.C. brought the facts to the notice of
the Home Secretary, as a result of which their solicitor made application to the original court for the refund of the £2, and produced the pardon, which read: "Know ye, that we, in consideration of 6ome circumstances' humbly represented unto us are graciously pleased to extend our grace and mercy unto the said > and to pardon and remit unto him the fine imposed on him as aforesaid." The chairman of the court stated that they did not wish to be less reasonable than the Home Secretary, and the money was paid out.
