"THE STORT OF THE SOUTHERN CROSS."
One of the greatest air adventure stories ever told is contained in the book, "The Story of the Southern Cross," detailing the trans-Pacific flight, written by Squadron-Leader C. E, Kinesford Smith and Flight-Lieut. C. T. P. Ulm, and published recently by Fenlington and Somerville, Sydney. The anxieties and dangers, the lessons learned from the flight, and even the efforts by Smith and Ulm to secure financial assistance in order to essay their big project of flying from America to Australia, blazing the first aerial trail across the wide Pacific, all make a gripping narrative. Although the quality and scope of their work is of more importance than their literary achievements, the book is exceptionally well written. Without airy exaggeration, with no striving for but in vivid language, ethey tell the etory of their great achievement. Despite the fact that when the reader takes up this book he knows that sound organisation and great skill triumphed, each page ia so thrilling that one cannot help feeling the- same dangers as the airmen themselves experienced on the epic air voyage. "The Story of the Southern Cross" deserves a wide circulation.
