CONTEST IN GREY LYNN. REFORM CANDIDATE ANNOUNCED. are now four candidates for the Grey Lynn seat, Mr. P. N. Bartram, the sitting Labour member, Mr. J. S. Fletcher, United party, Mrs. Louise Paterson, Independent, and Mr. Patrick Buckley Fitzherbert, solicitor, of Auckland, whose candidature under the Reform banner was announced last evening. The new Reform candidate is a grandson of Sir W. Fitzherbert,. who took a leading part in the political life of New Zealand in the early days. He was successively Speaker of both Houses. Born at Lower Hutt in 1879, Mr. Fitzherbert is the son of Mr. H. S. Fitzherbert, who represented Hatt for nine years, after which he retired, and was succeeded by the present member for Hutt, Mr. T. M. Wilford. Sir Patrick Buckley, Attorney-General in the Ballance and Seddon Ministries, was the candidate's uncle.

Mr. Fitzherbert was educated at Wanganui College. He went to South Africa and joined Robert's Horse, remaining in the country till 1904. After the war he played for Transvaal in a Rugby match against England. Returning to New Zealand, he resumed his law studies, interrupted by the war, and was admitted as a solicitor in 1905. Mr. Fitzherbert went to England during the Great War and joined the 70th Battery, Royal Field Artillery. Mr. Fitzherbert has practised as a solicitor at Dannevirke, New Plymouth, and more recently in Auckland.
