An express train drawn by two engines, bound from Euston to Aberdeen, collided with a freight train.
Two drivers and two firemen were killed. The main line is blocked with wreckage.
It appears the express overtook the freighter. By the most fortunate circumstance the four leading vehicles of the express were fruit vans.
These with the engines toppled over into a field, but the carriages remained upright. The passengers simply walked out, the injuries sustained being very slight.
