WAIKATO NOTES.
The gardening cirele of the Lyceum Club met at Mr. Bateson's nursery gardens on Thursday. A most" interesting lecture on dahlia culture was given by Mr. Batesou and was much appreciated by those who attended. Later in the afternoon an adjournment was made to Mrs. P. R. Stewart's, where afternoon tea was enjoyed. Those present were:—Mesdaines J. W. Walsh, Vere Chitty, J. D. Smith, J. F. Strang, W. Heath, J. E. Chitty, P. Cleary, F. W. Brewer.
The spinsters of Waharoa gave a most successful dance last week in the hall. Brightly hued paper streamers and coloured lights made a most effective decoration in the ballroom; The supper tables looked well with their decorations of crimson camellias. The Hamilton croquet lawns were opened on Wednesday by the president of the club, Mr. H. H. Howden, who wished the club a sucessful season. The biennial gathering of Plunket nurses for the Waikato district was held at Hamilton during the week. Miss A. Patrick (Dunedin), Dominion Director of Plunket Nursing, was present at the conference. Members of the Hamilton Plunkefc Committee attended each morning and afternoon, and served tea to those present, which was very much appreciated. Those present included:— Mesdames C. H. Holloway, M. Tlio Claudelands Ladies' Guild held a gift afternoon 011 Thursday in the Parish Hall, in aid of the garden party to be held next mouth. Those present were: Mesdaines F. A. Snell, Griffiths, G. W. Mathews, E. H. Curling, H. Gillies, P. Russell, J. McKinnon, C. Newell, N. Mclndoe, Rollo, W. A. Murray, Pinfold, Blakewell, A. W. Ward, Murphy, H. Course, C. A. Palmer, Farquliar, Troutbeck, S. On Wednesday night a meeting of parents in connection with the Hamilton West School was held to form a school association. A representative gathering was present, and the matter, was fully discussed.
