LAWN TENNIS.

EDENDALE CLUB.

On Saturday last the Edendale Tennis Club commenced its season, the opening seremony being performed by Mr. G. Rhodes, Mayor of Mount Albert. In his short opening speech his Worship indicated that he is a keen supporter of the game, and that both in his private and official capacity he encourages all healthy outdoor sports. The Mayoress accompanied Mr. Rhodes, and a large number of members and their friends were present.

Afternoon tea was served, after which the lawns were soon studded with energetic players, full of enthusiasm.

A number of new players have been admitted to club membership, and there is every indication of a successful future for the club.

• OTAHDHU CLUB.

The official opening of the Otahuhu Tennis Club took place yesterday afternoon. The president, Mr. R. Brown, performed the ceremony, and there was a good attendance of players and representatives of neighbouring clubs. Owing to the rain overnight, the progressive games were not started, a few friendly games only being played. Mrs. T. Whiteley, one of the pioneers of the club, served the first ball. The membership Is abont fX>, with a waiting lift of 20 applicants. The finances of the club are in a sound condition, and the five courts are ail in first-class order. An enjoyable afternoon was spent, the ladies providing afternoon tea.

HOWICK CLUB.

The Howick Tennis Club held its official opening in beautiful weather. Canon Mason, the club's president, in an appropriate speech, welcomed the large number of victors, and favonrably commented upon the splendid appearance of the lawns and buildings. After he had declared the lawns open for the season, Mrs. Phillips served the first ball.

Progressive tennis was plred for the remainder of the afternoon, the winners bring Mrs. K. Pa ton and Mr. S. Blundell.
