* COURT EXTENDS LENIENCY.
i On the application of Chief Detective Hammond, a charge of breaking and entering a house in Devonport on October 12 and stealing £2 15/6 in money, preferred against a married woman, aged 25, at the Police Court. this morning, Was reduced to one of simple theft.
; Accused, for whom Mr. Allan Moody appeared, pleaded guilty. ' Mr. Hammond' said "that the woman went to the house of a friend, knowing that she had gone across to Auckland. Entering through a window she stole the sum of money mentioned in the cbar.se. Accused had never been in trouble before. , , . . On behalf of his client, who stood in court weepine, Mr. Moody said it was a case of a sudden impulse. Accused, who i had' one child, aped six, had made restitution. She had a good record in the oast, and was now sorry for what 'she had done.
The magistrate,. Mr. P. K- Himt, in Ad iourninR 1 the case for six months, in order to *ee how accused behaved, said ♦hat he d«d not wish to record a conviction asra>nf*t her. On account of her vonth and her hnsltand. Mr Himt ordered suppression of accused's name.
