SECRET CONVICTIONS.

EMPLOYERS."

S.M. - REFUSE SUPPRESSION.

MEN FIGHTING IN STREET

(By Telefrapb.—Own Correspondent.)

HAMILTON, this day

' "I don't think the courts of justice should hoodwink employers by actively suppressing . 1 facts," remarked Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., when refusing to suppress the n&mes of two men charged with fighting in a public place. ■

The men, Victor Daniel Wisneskey, aged 30, and John Grey, 42, had a struggle at the entrance of a hotel on Saturday after the races. Wisneskey, who was under the influence of liquor, tried to enter the hotel, but he was obstructed by the proprietor. His companion, Grey, also sought to restrain him, and the pair had a .'ding-dong fight until the police arrived and locked them both up. \

Counsel contended that the offence was not really serious. The men were highly respectable and had unblemished records. He said be understood that if their conviction came to the knowledge of their employers they would probably lose their jobs. '•><- ;

His Worship said both defendants were of mature age. He did not think. it riglit that the court*. justice should hoodwink employers t»y,' actively;ssuppressing the fact that these men had got into, a state of intoxication and fought on' the street. He refused to suppress the names and added that if the matter was so trifling as counsel made out this no doubt would be taken into consideration by the men's employers. ; Each man was fined 10/ and costs. . ~
