BERLIN, October 21,
The election of Germany's "Newspaper King," Herr Hugenberg, as president of the National People's party, in succession to Count Westarp, denotes the triumph of the extremists' party.
Herr Hugenberg owns scores of newspapers throughout Germany. He is a bitter opponent of the Republic policy, the understanding with France, the Locarno agreement, and the Treaty of Versailles.
He is also the man behind the Nationalists' Steel Helmet organisation, and the leader of the German Fascists. TTi« election is certain to increase the tension in internal politics.
Ex-Chancellor Marx is resigning ths chairmanship of the Centre party in December for reasons of health.
