THREATENING WEATHER.
DULL WEEK-END.
NEARLY ONE INCH OF RAIN.
Dull, overcast skies, giving promise of stormy weather, characterised the weather in Auckland over the week-end.
On Saturday there was a light south-south-west wind, but yesterday morning it swung round to the north-east, bringing heavy showers in the afternoon. Still holding from the same direction, the wind increased in force during the night, and very heavy rain fell. This morning it dropped to a flat calm, with heavy clouds banking up in the northeast, but towards midday they began to disperse under the influence of a faint southerly breeze.
This morning the Government meteorologist stated that from 9 a.m. on Saturday to 9 a.m. to-day, there had been only 4.35 hours of sunshine, while for the 24 hours, ending 9 a.m., .97 inches of rain had fallen. Of this, .75 inches had fallen early this morning within a space of three hours. The rainfall to date this month is 3.36 inchi. as compared with the average for October of 3.91 inches.
