ELLERSLIE CROQUET CLUB.

Purple anemones and gold African daisies were the decorations for the Ellerslie Bowling and Croquet Club's tea table, when they opened both greens on Saturday afternoon. The Mission Bay Cabaret orchestra was in attendance. The club's colours of gold and purple as trellised streamers and nikau palms surrounded the pavilion. The president, Mr. J. G. Toy and Mrs. Toy, welcomed the guests, the latter throwing the jack. Mrs. Toy wore a pale cocoa shade of georgette inset with lace of same tone, beige hat with spray of velvet flowers; Mrs. Sommerville, president of the Croquet Club, wore a grey and blue striped jumper suit, black and grey hat; Mrs. J. Christmas, vice-president, black crepe de chine, grey picture hat; Mrs. T. Bennett, black ensemble suit, black crinoline hat; Mrs. Patton, navy blue charmeuse, bois de rose hat; Mrs. Eckett, floral crepe de chine; Mrs. McKelvie, black silk and gold lace, navy'hat; Mrs. Diggens, floral rayon, black hat; Miss Arthur, almond green jersey suit. Among the visitors were: Mrs. S. A large number of guests were invited to the Remuera Bowling Club, which was formally opened for play on Saturday afternoon. The president, Mr. T. R. Proctor and Mrs. Proctor, welcomed the guests, the afternoon tea tables being decorated in roses and Iceland poppies, the club's colours, which looked charming. The Devonport Bowling Club was en fete last Saturday, the official opening day of the season. The pavilion was gay with flags and bunting, and the Devonport Boys' Band added to the enjoyment of the afternoon with several wellrendered selections. Afternoon tea was dispensed by & committee of ladies, the tables being artistically decorated with bowls of ranunculus and ferns. The Mayor, Mr. E. Aldridge, who was introduced -by Mr. F. E. Mason, the president of the club, brought greetings and good wishes of the Borough Council, and expressed his congratulations on the appearance of the greens and his good wishes for a prosperous and successful season, which he then declared open. The first "kitty" was thrown by Mrs. F. E. Mason, and play became general— There were many visitors from other clubs, Papakura, Pukekohe, Remuera, Dominion Road, Auckland, Takapuna, Papatoetoe, Suva, and Mount Albert all being represented. DEVONPORT CROQUET CLUB. The opening day last Saturday of the Devonport Croquet Club augured well for the success of the coming season. The lawns are in excellent condition and the club membership is increasing. The president, Mrs. J. Newell, who opened the club, was presented with a bouquet of violet.s on behalf of the ladies of the club by Mrs. Prime. A match of progressive croquet was arranged, the winners being Mrs. Bailey (A) and Mrs. Pacey (B). The prizes were given by the president, also a very dainty afternoon tea. During the winter months £40 was raised on behalf of the poor by bridge parties arranged by the club. Amongst the players on Saturday were: Mrs. Newell, Mrs. Foster (secretary), Mrs. C. Prime, Mrs. Lydford, Mrs. Spicer, Mrs. Swan, Mrs. W. Bailey, Mrs. R Duder, Miss G. Duder, Mrs. Paillairette, Mrs. Seton, Mrs. Ford, Mrs. Casey, Mrs. Powley and Mrs. Bolitho.

NGATARINGA TENNIS COURT. The Mayor of Devonport, Mr. E. Aldridge, made the official opening of the Ngataringa Tennis Court at Stanley Bay on Saturday afternoon. An American tournament was arranged for the afternoon's play and keenly entered into. A dainty afternoon tea waß served in the pavilion. The ladies on the courts were Mrs. E. Aldridge (Mayoress), Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. Gladding, Mrs. Scaletti, Mrs. Bailey, Mrs. Ross, Mrs. Dance, Mrs. ~MacFarland, Mrs. Potts, Mrs. Redman, Mrs. YVardell, Mrs. Hazeldean. Mrs. Stephenson, Miss U. Dawson, Miss N. Worrell, Miss McAslari, Miss McCauly, Miss Wyatt, Miss M. Daniels, Miss Shipcott, Miss Dance, Miss Lund, Miss Ross, Miss Spence, Miss Atkinson, Miss Prideaux, Miss Jefferson, Miss Longdell, Miss Foster, and Miss Bartlett.

STANLEY BAY BOWLING CLUB. The opening of the Stanley Bay fowling green by the Rev. F. L. Niblock (presilent), took place last Saturday afternoon in perfect weather. The trophies for the last season's matches were presented to the winners during the afternoon by Mr. H. A. Purser, the immediate past president. A number of ladies were entertained at the club, afternoon tea being served. Amongst them were': Mrs. NibMrs. Purser, Mrs. D. EPSOM BOWLING AND CROQUET CLUB. In brilliant sunshine the Epsom Bowling and Croquet Clubs opened their lawns on Saturday afternoon. The hosts of the day were the president Mr. I*. McK. Morrison and Mrs. Morrison, of Epsom. The pavilion was artistically arranged in blue irises and numerous silver and crystal vases of gold and yellow Iceland poppies. The Papatoetoe Town Band, under the baton of Viv.-De Clifton, gave an excellent programme. Mrs. Morrison threw the jack, and Mrs. Walker (the croquet president) played the first ball. The former received the guests in a black crepe de chine, lace vest and black hat; Mrs. Walker, navy blue crepe de chine and beige hat; Miss Ellen Melville wore a bois du rose frock with a beige coat and hat; Mrs. V. A. Huddlestone, cinnamon and sandust crepe de chene; Mrs. Rogers, apple green chenille jumper suit; Mrs. Blakey, bois du rose chenille velour; Mrs. Gosling, amethyst flowered crepe de .chine with blue coat and hat; Mrs. Cole, heliotrope chenille jersey suit; Mrs. Schubert, pastel blue frock, lace jabot; Mrs. McGregor, mole crepe de chine, pale green hat; Mrs. Penn, mauve crepe de chine, black hat; Mrs. Jenkin, three-piece fawn and blue jersey suit. MANUREWA CROQUET CLUB. Favoured by splendid weather, the Manurewa Croquet Club held a successful opening of the season on Saturday afternoon. The lawns presented a very attractive appearance, and, in conjunction with the adjoining bowling club grounds, combined to form a delightful recreation area, which is certainly a credit to the district. There was a very large attendance, including visitors from neighbouring clubs, members of the bowling club with their guests, and numerous members of the adjacent tennis club. All were extended a cordial welcome by the president (Mrs. F. Whyte). The secretary (Mrs. T. Wood) played the first ball amidst loud applause, and the greens were declared open for the season. An adjournment was then made to the Town Hall, where afternoon tea was served. Tli-j tables were tastefully decorated for the occasion.

ONEHUNGA BOWLING AND CROQUET CLUBS. One of the most delightful and largestattended functions on Saturday was the opening of the Onehunga Bowling and Croquet Clubs. The president, Mr. R. Buchanan, and Mrs. Buchanan, received the members and their many guests, amid the pretty surroundings. The clubs' colours used in the decorations were scarlet poppies, cornflowers, blue larkspur, perennial peas and delphiniums. Miss Marie McFarquhar presented Mrs. Buchanan with a large shower bouquet of choice pink tulips, roses, with shaded pink satin ribbons. J. F. Leighton's orchestra played many well-known items. The hostess was gowned in figured chiffon in tones of browns and reds, with drape of silk lace falling to the end of one side of the skirt, and a smart hat to tone. The president of the croquet club, Mrs. C. J. Sclinauer, was in biscuit georgette and lace, hat to match; Mrs. B. Jones, bottle green crepe de chine, green coat, black hat; Mrs. A. Kenny, grey and blue tweed costume; Mrs. Patterson, black flowered silk and black hat; Mrs. J. B. Crawford, smart navy blue rayon, beige sports coat; Mrs. W. A. Wallace, wine frock, black coat; Mrs. A. Brown, maize and blue crepe de chine, black hat; Mrs. A. Craig, grey repp costume, rose hat; Mrs. J. Parr, grey and black marocain frock, black coat and hat; Mrs. Burgess, wedgwood blue costume, hat to match; Mrs. Eritt, navy blue costume, navy blue hat; Mrs. Warren, light navy rayon fawn and navy hat; Miss Washer, grey costume, fawn and rose pink hat; Mrs. H.
