NEWMARKET POLL.
VOTING ON LOAN PROPOSALS.
EXPENDITURE OF £13,500.
RESULTS EXPECTED AT 8 O'CLOCK.
Owing to a sharp division of opinion concerning the proposed alterations, to the tram tracks at the junction of Khyber Pass, Parnell Road and Broadway, the result of to-day's voting on Newmarket's loan proposals, involving expenditure aggregating £13,500, is being awaited with keen interest; £11,500 of the money is intended for drainage and reticulation works within the borough, £1200 for alterations to the tram tracks, and £800 for .the reconstruction of Mortimer's Pass.
Polling commenced at 9 o'clock this morning, and will continue until 7 p.m. The result, which is expected to be known at 8 o'clock, will be announced from in. front of, the Municipal Chambers. Polling this morning was not as brisk as was anticipated owing to the inclement weather, but it is expected that it will increase in volume towards the closing hours to make record voting. There are 1057 ratepayers on the roll of the borough.
