RACING FIXTURES FOE SEASON I 1928-29.' 1
ELECTION OF OFFICERS.
Tlie annual meeting of the Auckland | Yacht and Motor Boat Association was 1 &eld <: last evening in the Royal New | Zealand Yacht Squadron Rooms, Mr. J. 1 B. Johnston presiding. | Delegates were in attendance' from | the following clubs:—Royal N.Z. Yacht j Squadron, Manukau Yacht Club, Mannkaii Cruising Club, Akarana Yacht Club, ponsonby Cruising Club, Victoria Cruising . Club, Richmond Cruising Club, Devonport Yacht Club, Takapuna Boating Club, Point Chevalier Sailing Club, Mjlford Cruising Club, Tamaki Yacht Club, N.Z. Power Boat Association, and tho Northcote Regatta Committee. The report submitted by the hon. secretary stated that racing in the larger types of craft, particularly in the keel yacht classes , was exceedingly good during the season, and it was gratifying to learn that even better fields are likely to compete in the coming season. There' had been a falling off in entries in the H and N class, but there was the keenest of interest in the Ij class (22 footera). The sixteen and eighteen feet classes are ./becoming more popular. Last year the ,M class- (the Royal N.Z. Yacht Squadron's restricted 19 foot patiki class) gained two new craft. This class is probably the most successful racing class on the Waitemata, providing as it does throughout the season keen and close raeing without the bugbear of The other 18 footers (the V class) . have attained a widespread popularity, due in part to their ease of construction, but also because they are i'airly comfortable cruisers. The Senders Cup contest was this year held at Stewart Island,- and the Auckland- challenger, Avalon, made a fine showing. The Corowell Cup was Sailed on the [Waitemata this year, and honours lesfced with the Auckland team. During the season?- 'the association admitted to affiliation 'the Russell Regatta Club, this .being the first body-. to apply for affiliation under the special rules' for the acceptance of a body whose headquarters is outside a radius of 15 miles from the "G.P.0., Auckland. The association has now completed the compilation of a handbook, and it is proposed, to commence printing immedir ately. It is anticipated that the bode will- he published about November 12. Fo£' maiiy years past the association has endeavoured to secure some measure of police protection for craft afloat,-but without success. In his latest reply the Honi- Minister for' Justice stated that the* Police Department had not received any number of reports of theft .from craft. The association suggests that whenever a theft occurs it should he reported to the police immediately, and a copy of the complaint ! sent .to the secretary of the association, ] which will thus-be in a position to make J definite representations to the Minister. < Thebalance-sheet showed a credit for < the 'year of £12 9/. ** • / J itoying the adoption of the report and J balance-sheet, tbe chairman said, judg- J ing reports of their annual meet- « ing3y-ell cluW hsd been--very successful, t and, he hoped this -year- would fce -fe'ven ■ ■ ! better, .As he had decided,'for health J reasons, not 'to. -seek- re-election, "he 1 J would' : like "to impress on the various clubfiPthe importance of continuing the anriUi} ?! contest for the Sanders Cup.
