AN ENTHUSIAST HONOURED.

PRESENTATION TO MR. E. C. BEALE

Known from one end of New Zealand to the other as one of the Dominion's keenest cricket enthusiasts and an organiser of cricket tours, Mr. E. C. Beale was the guest of honour at a gathering of members of Auckland touring teams and the Te Awa and Te Ata elevens in the Chamber of Commerce last evening. Mr. R. B. Lusk, a vicepresident of the Auckland Cricket Association, presided.

Reference to the valuable work done by Mr. Beale in the interests of cricket was made by the president, while the secretary of the presentation committee, Mr. H. Duncan, read letters of appreciation of his services frontf clubs in all parts of the province.

Appreciation of Mr. Beale's efforts towards the improvement and management of ' the game in New Zealand was expressed by Messrs. N. I C. Snedden (Ponsonby), W. 11. Johnston (Parnell), J. H. Miller (Y.M.CA.), W. J. Coates (North Shore), J. A. Dunning (University), N. H l .' E. Hockin (Grafton), J. E. Mills (Eden) and P. C. Furley- (mid-week teams). On behalf of the many players whohad been connected with Mr. Beale in cricket, the president presented the guest of the evening with a suitcase, suitably inscribed, while the gathering sang "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow."

In thanking his fellow sportsmen, Mr. Beale said he derived the greatest pleasure in arranging games and taking part;in them. Of 5® games he had organised he had played in 48.

During the evening items were given by Mr. E. Lusk, and numerous cricket stories were told by both the players of to-day and those Whose playing days are over.
