SPEED LIMITS.

A FALLACIOUS POSITION. } STANDARDISATION SUGGESTED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this day. "I think it is preposterous that when so much money has been spent on laying down a concrete road between Papakura and Auckland, that the speed of motorists should be restricted to 35 miles an hour," declared Dr. A. G. Waddell at a meeting of the Hamilton Agency of the Auckland Automobile Association last night. His remark followed on a suggestion by Mr. E. Gilman, that the speed limit be standardised throughout the towns and cities of the Dominion. Mr. Gilman pointed out the fallacy of a place like Huntly fixing the speed limit through the town at 15 miles, while in Hamilton it was 25, and in Auckland there appeared to be no speed limit at all. Several members considered local speed by-laws should be abolished altogether. as the negligent and dangerous driving clauses of the motor regulations fully covered the position. The circumstances it was considered governed the position in each case. No action was taken.
