ECCENTRIC DESTRUCTOR.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAXGANUI, this day. Wanganui's municipal refuse destructor has never been a success. When constructed some six years ago it was expected to digest any class of refuse, but it needed a lot of coaxing, and the council staff had to be very careful regarding the material with which it was fed. In recent months the destructor started to scatter showers of businessmen's correspondence and cheques about the town, and it was generally in a bad way. Now it has ceased to function, and Wanganui's refuse will be deposited j in the gold old-fashioned way, but this • time in the Balgownie swamp.
