DAMAGED STEAMER.
REPAIRS AT AUCKLAND. attempt Without docking. After inspecting the steamer Antonio yesterday afternoon, the marine surveyors recommended that her damaged propeller should be replaced at Auckland before she leaves for Lyttelton. The damage was done by a big sea which struck the vessel in the Pacific during a gale. The Antonio has a cargo of phosphate from Morocco, the local portion of which is being discharged at the King's wharf, and it was hoped to send her to Lyttelton to put out the remainder before docking. When the surveyors' decision was made known, work on the forward holds was stopped, and the Auckland cargo will be taken out of the after holds. By this means it is expected to raise the stern sufficient to remove the broken propeller and replace it with the spare one which the ship carries, without the vessel being docked. As the propeller is cast in one piece, replacing it will be a fairly heavy task, but it is hoped to make a start with the work on Thiirsdnv
