WELLINGTON WAR MEMORIAL

SITE CONTROVERSY ENDED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The long-drawn-out controversy over the site for the Citizens' War Memorial is likely to end with the acceptance of an offer made by the Prime Minister, to make available a portion of the land to be taken by the Government and the City Council jointly, in the angle between Lambton Quay and Bowen Street, as a preliminary to an important improvement in this part of the city. As a result of the Government's action in granting the site, it is confidently expected that the foundation stone of the memorial will be laid next Anzac Day.
