OTAGO HUNT CLUB.
ANNUAL TOTALISATOR MEET. (By Telegraph—Special to "Star.") DUXEDIX, this day. Provided rain holds off, the track at Wfngatui will be fast for the annual meeting of the Otago Hunt Club on Saturdav.
Only four have been paid up for in the Seaview Hunters' Hurdles. As Caramba has not shaped well there are really only tlire~e in the race .and on Riccarton running the maiden Lmtali shcudl be favourite. Armchair is easily second choice.
For the President's Handicap a field of fourteen will be sent out. The short distance and state of the track will be much to the liking of Meadow Lark. Despot should also go well, and Marjoram must be considered, although he will be more suited over the six furlongs race at the en<l of the programme. Wine Tray has only to reproduce his two-year-old form to be handy at the finish. The Otagri Hunt Club Cup Steeplerhase has drawn a field of nine, and Lanui will be a warm favourite on the strength of his excellent performance at Rircartnn. Xylotis has not had a race since he won over country at Riverton and Lochella's condition might not 1 see him out the journey. Cassells has been doincr plenty of solid work, and can be expected to go a good race, while Tycho is a light-weight who will be benefited by his outings at the I National meeting.
The seven left in the Jockey Club's Handicap should provide an excellent race. If rain should fall before the meeting Taboo would be favourite. The scale of weights is lower, and Taboo would go all the better.'' Battlement will probably find the need of a race, as he has not sported silk since the Auckland summer meeting, while Overdrawn seems to have lost all his stamina and is usually beaten inside a mile. Miss Winkie N appeals most—the mare w _ as showing dash at the finish of the Selwyn Handicap on the final day of the National meeting, and reproduction of that form would make her hard to beat. Ronaki will also go a merry mile. This pair and Taboo read best.
The Wingatui Trotting Handicap usually provides a big dividend, as little is seen or heard of the track work of the majority of the competitors, but three who should be prominent are Sunspot, Dan Huon and Maiwhariti.
Eight are left in the Brockville Steeplechase, and Tuki is top weight with 12.13. The distance, however, is far too short for him, but he will have a jumper's chance. Jovial has pace to burn, and if the ex-North Islander can be induced to take his fences more carefully he should be prominent- at the finish. In at 10.6 rs Royal Wink, and he may probably fight out the finish with Jovial and Tuki. The Hunters' Flat looks like developing into a race between King Sol. Armchair and Pink Rose, and they will probably be selected in that order. The Vauxhall Handicap will bring the day's racing to a close. Marjoram, Narrative and Phastar promise to be close 1 up when the judge is reached.
