AUCKLAND DRAINAGE.

POPULATION STATISTICS. PUMPING PLANT INSTALLATIONS. The Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, presiding. The engineer-secretary reported that application had been made to the Minister of Internal Affairs for the issue of a proclamation declaring the Orakei district to be incorporated in the dainage district. The Government Statistician furnished a statement of population figures for the constituent areas of the drainage district to March 31 last. It showed: Auckland city, 98,920; Mount Eden Borough, 19,270; Mount Albert Borough, 19,285; Newmarket Borough, 3240; One Tree Hill Road District, 7420; Tamaki Road District, 3900; total for drainage district, 150,035.

The Bank of New Zealand advised that the board's aggregate fund account had been made operative during the current year by way of overdraft limit of £26,000.

The Local Government Loans Board consented to the currency of the No. 8 loan of £25,000 being extended from 21 to 35 years.

A property owner who connected up with a sewer without the consent of the board is to be proceeded against, as the breach was considered serious.

The question of installing a third pumping unit with the necessary additional accommodation as an addition to the plant at the corner of Anzac Avenue and Beach Road was referred to the Works Committee. The Hobson Bay area is to be dealt with by the provision of a pumping station if a proposed improvement scheme is proceeded with.
