SHAKY WHAU BRIDGE.
EXAMINATION BY EXPERTS.
LOADS AID PACE BHTKICTBD
"POLICING" THE STRUCTURE.
The Whau Bridge on the Great North Road, which has been causing anxiety to the New Lynn Town Board, the controlling authority, on account of its shaky condition, was examined yesterday by the Public Works engineer, the city engineer, and the engineers to the New Lynn Town Board.
r The chairman of the New Lynn Town Board, Mr. W. L. Titchener, informed a "Star" representative this morning that the engineers had decided that the position was urgent, but so far their official report had not been received. The engineers, he said, approved of the Town Board's proposal to limit the load that may go over the bridge strictly to five tons, and the speed to five miles an hour. They had also approved of the employment of a man to "police" the bridge to see that the restrictions agreed upon were enforced.
"It is not proposed to carrv out any repair work in the meantime, 5 ' said Mr. Titchener, "as it is considered that provided the loads are restricted as well as the pace, the bridge will be quite safe for a time."
