HOW LONG DOES A CAR LIVE?
Next to touring Europe, the average American seems to be keener on statistics than anything else. That is, if one may judge from the many bundles of figures that are always being evolved in the United States. The latest in this line as regards motoring is the work of a Professor; yes, perhaps he should have a capital! He is the Professor of Marketing at the School of Business Administration —a wonderful title—in the University of Michigan, and he set out to find how long cars live. He selected 100,000 cars of various makes, and, so to speak, traced them to their doom. It has bean an arduous job, but here are his figures:— Age in Number going Years. at first of yeaT. 0 100,000 i 100,000 H 97,700 2i 90,763 ' 83,862 4i 78,907 68,097 57,882 7} 42,659 • «£ 32,378 20,528 101 15,35511} 7.386 12A 4,409 It seems extraordinary that nearly 10,000 should be defunct after only two and a-half years' use, and it would be interesting to compare these figures with similar ones relating to British cars.
