RAILWAY WORKSHOPS.
ADDINGTON HEADQUARTERS,
MAXIMUM OF EFFICIENCY
(By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.")
CHRISTL HUlit H, this day
Work is now well advanced in reorganisation of the Addington railway workshops in accordance with the scheme of railway improvements initiated by the Hon. J. CI. Coates. Under this scheme Addington workshops are to be the headquarters for all car and wagon construction for the South Island, Hillside workshops at Dunedin being headquarters for locomotive work. In the new buildings at Addington the most modern labour saving machinery is being installed, and, as varioiia departments are conveniently arranged, work should be carried out with the maximum of efficiency. All the machinery will be electrically operated. Remarkably little interference with ordinary work in the old shops has been caused as a result of rebuilding operations, and actually the number of men employed has been increased owing to transfers from Dunedin and Greymouth. At the.present time work is in progress on the construction of 66" XA refrigerated wagons, and existing wagons are hping kept in thorough repair.
