TABOO HOME IN SPRINT.
TOXEUMA LIFTS TRIAL PLATE. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Siar.") TRENTHAM, this day. The Wellington Racing Club's winter meeting opened to-day. It will be continued to-morrow and concluded on Saturday. There is beautiful weather, and a large attendance. The course is heavy. Results: — Patuki Brings Down Two Others. The programme opened with the Vittoria Hurdles, for which Sir Moment (£890), Troilus (£827), and the bracket Atareria-Home Made (£812) were best backed. Home Made led past the stands from Rubv Ring, Troilus, Sir Moment, Atareria, *San Pedro, Patuki, and Braeman. Along the back Troilus went to the front, attended by Home Made, Ruby Ring, Sir Moment, San Pedro, and Atareria. Troilus was still in charge across the top from Home Made, Sir Moment, San Pedro, Patuki, Atareria, and Ruby Ring. Patuki crashed two fences from Home, where Ruby Ring and Braeman fell over him. Troilus led into the straight from Home Made and San Pedro, but, once over the last hurdle, San Pedro put in a claim, to beat Troilus by a neck. Home Made was a ler -' . away, third, with Sir Moment ajid Atareria next. A Favourite Beaten. Mark Mint, Rameses, Sir Spear and Tripos failed to parade for the Trial Plate. The public went for Roscrea, entrusting him with £157 more than Consent, with Toxeuma next fancied. Battle Torque and Water Spear whipped round at the post and were badly left. Toxeuma led at the etart from Gold Cure, Solgele and Consent. Toxeuma and Solgele were first to reach the course proper, with Consent, Roscrea, Gold Cure and Dancing Star next. At the distance Roscrea came through, but though he finished well he was unable to reach Toxeuma, who beat him by a length and a-half. Consent was three lengths away third, with. Gold Cure, Le Champ, Tea Rose, Lucky Light, Cold Air and Solgele next. A Good Finish. Awangawanga was the only withdrawal from the First Hack Steeplechase. Matu ( £993) was first choice, with Radiate ( £739) and Jovial ( £710) next fancied. Oriflamb was in charge when the field settled down, with Hangawera, Jovial, Captain Sarto, Mainspring, Sir Wai, San Fera, Matu and Radiate next. When they came round again Jovial was in command from Oriflamb, Captain Sarto, Hangawera,• and Radiate, with Matu still last. Jovial and Captain Sarto led along the, back from Mainspring, Radiate, San Fera, Matu, and Hangawera. Mainspring was in charge as they crossed the top, but entering the straight Radiate was with him, while San Fera and Matu were handy. Once over the last fence a good race resulted m Matu winning by three-quarters of a length from Radiate, who beat San Fera by half-a-head. Mainspring was fourth, with Jovial, Captain Sarto, and Sir Wai nexti Oriflamb pulled up.
A Head Victory. Decoy Bird was the only scratching for the Stewards' Handicap, for which the bracket King Lu-Waltzer was mn?t in request, being entrusted with £1607, while Duke Abbey ( £1159) and Catkii. ( £1041) also had friends. Panther and Ronaki were prominent when the field had gone half a furlong, with King Lu, Duke Abbey, and Bonogne next. Panther led on to the course proper from Duke Abbey, Bonogne, Ronaki, Taboo, and King Lu. Taboo then put in his claim, and got up in time to beat Panther by a head. Duke Abbey was a length away third, with Ring Boy, Monaghan, Bonogne, Catkin, Waltzer, Ballymoy 11., and King Lu next.
