SHOPS AND LETTING SPACE.
A handsome addition to the architectural appearance of Newton will be made with the immediate erection of a modern two-storeyed building at the corner of Newton Road and Dundonald Street for the Fountain of Friendship I Lodge.
The building wmc® lias been designed by Messrs. Wade and Bartley will cost £10,500. It is of imposing appearance, having a particularly attractive facade, and will be constructed in ferroconcrete.
Ample provision has been made bv the architects for the requirements of the lodge, and, in addition spacious shops and letting space have been included it! the plane. The basement is designed to enable it to be occupied independently by two tenants if necessary, and entrance to it will be effected from Dundonald Street. The ground floor has been subdivided to provide for two shops and a large lettiug area at the back with direct access from the main entrance in Newton Road. Seven hundred superficial feet of floor space has been reserved on the first floor for letting purposes, but the remainder of it has been subdivided to suit the special requirements of the Lodge. Space has also been set aside for a commodious lodge room, a supper room, replete with modern conveniences and folding doors, a kitchen, an office for the secretary, and members' and committee rooms.
Messrs. Garner and Son. the contractors for the erection of the new premises, expect to finish the building ear J in Januarv of next year.
