CORNER FOR BUSY BEES
COVER YOUR OLD BOOK. QUITE EASILY MADE. (Conducted by TINKER BELL.) Dear Girls, — There are so many of our old books, treasures with which we hate to cart, yet which are now too knocked about; looking to maintain their rightfol place on the bookshelf, that I have devised a simple means by which any girl can re-cover one of her old favourites at very little cost. Obtain a strip of cretonne the same width as your book, and long enough to cover the outside and half-way down the insides. Bind this round with ribbon of suitable colour, then fold the ends over and sew into position so as to make "pockets" for the cover to fit into. A piece of ribbon is to be attached to the cover and threaded through the back of the book (between the pages and the little strip of leather binding); so, down the centre of your book
cover make a series of slits as 'wide as the ribbon you intend to use, and having buttonholed these, thread the ribbon through them. When the book is setting snugly in its new cover, pass the ends of the ribbon through the space between the pages and the binding; knot the ends, and draw up again so that the knot is concealed within the casing at the back of the book. If you take the time and trouble to work your initials in one corner of the cloth cover, your old book will no longer be a thing to be ashamed of, but will be a very precious possession of which you can be justly proud.
