CHURCH DISUNITED.
Bishop Barnes Opposed To Prayer Book. PRIMATE HINTS RETIREMENT. (Australian Press Assn.—United Service.) (Received 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, June 7. Bishop Barnes reiterates his objections to the Prayer Book proposals as further disuniting the Church. He partly agrees w itli the Archbishop of Canterbury's plea, but, though moved by the pathos of its words, he declares that vounger men must face the realities especially because the Church's present plight is due to the ailure of the leaders Tn the immediate past to do so. If the present proposals pass, he says, the Church will steadily lose evangelical and liberal elements. The possible end ing is Church disendowment. The Archbishop of Canterbury, presiding at the Canterbury Diocesan Con feience, hinted at his early retirement. He said the seventh Lambeth Conference in 1930 would not be under his chairmanship.
