A PRISONER'S THEFTS. HORSE -STE A L Ett SENTENCED. "Several offences of a similar nature •were committed by accused, and this is only one of a series." said Mr. V. R. Meredith, Crown Presecutor, at the Supreme Court to-day, when John Eraser, a young man, appeared for sentence on a charge of stealing a mare at Whakataue. Counsel added that Fraser had used the horses and then sold them.
"it is difficult to know what to do with a man of this calibre; several short sentences do not seem to have had any effect on him," said Judge Mac(Jrcgor.
Eraser .said he was at present serving a nentenee of three months' imprisonment. "I leave it in your hands to pass sentence as leniently as possible." His Honor sentenced accused to nine months' imprisonment.
